Manumatic Systems

Paddle shifting your hot rod requires an electronic transmission as well as an aftermarket transmission controller that features manumatic capability. The Shrifter® paddle shifter is part of an all electronic solution. Here's how it works: Tap a paddle and the Shrifter® sends a wireless signal to the transmission computer. The computer decides if and how hard to shift and, in turn, hits the electronic solenoids in the transmission. The computer, also known as a controller, is the heart of the system--not the paddle shifter. The paddle shifter is simply an input device--much like the mouse or keyboard connected to your desktop PC or laptop. After many years of testing, we have found the Compushift controller to be the fastest processing, easiest to install, easiest to tune, and most reliable product on the market. Their technical support is first rate. To greatly simplify the ordering and installation process, Twist Machine offers two levels of packages.
PADDLE SHIFTER/COMPUTER PACKAGE
Should you choose to supply your own transmission and torque converter, then you can save by purchasing a paddle shifter and computer package. Contents include a Twist Machine, LLC Shrifter® paddle shifter and HGM Automotive Compushift transmission controller. Also included is a custom "plug and play" calibration and lifetime technical support. Save 10% over the price of the individual components. Additionally, you can add an HGM Display Programmer that simplifies fine tuning and contains some trick features such as a built in gear display. It shows what gear the transmission is in as well as if you are in auto or paddle shift mode: 1, 2, 3, 4 OR S1, S2, S3, S4. The Compushift display even has a built in rear wheel dyno simulator and longitudinal accelerometer. The display/programmer is not necessary, but highly recommended. Total package discount is 12% when you add the display/programmer.
COMPLETE 4L65RR MANUMATIC SYSTEM
You can supply your own transmission and torque converter, but if you want the ultimate, fully integrated transmission system, choose the 4L65RR. The system includes a transmission, torque converter, computer, display, calibration, lifetime tech support, and paddle shifter. The RR manumatic is a collaboration of components by Bowler Transmission, HGM Compushift, Pro Torque and Twist Machine. It's a huge leap forward in hot rod manumatic technology. The following objectives have been met:
Minimized Shift Times: Shifts are super quick without being harsh. The word I like to use to describe the shifts is "Oomph!" We can honestly claim the fastest shifts of any automtic or manual for your hot rod.
Enhanced Engine Braking: Bowler Transmissions modifies the transmission to engage the overrun and coast clutches at the same time when the shifter is in the "3" position. This is combined with the heavy duty lock up clutch for just the right amount of engine braking. With the shifter in the OD position, the transmission freewheels for best fuel economy. In this mode, some engine braking is provided by the oversized lock up clutch. For example, Twist's primary R&D vehicle has lock up set to 44 miles per hour. It will stay locked up across the rpm range and back down to 34 mph. 100% coupling efficiency (no slippage) is the result--just like a true clutch based system.
There are other benefits to the 4L65RR system, such as a special advanced calibration that is only available as part of the package. Due to differences in transmission building techniques, we cannot supply an RR calibration unless we also supply the transmission and torque converter.
